Searching for Me
Through the woods we go!
Who am I?
Where do we begin.
Whether we have lived a few or many decades, we recognize that we have different identities. Let’s start with the basics. An identity is the many parts of us that make up our whole, our individual self. These parts of ourselves can be our ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, personality, professional and personal identities. You get the idea. So many of these identities were acquired and not really thought out with intentional claim.
Let’s go a to a deeper level with our identities. Who am I? Examining who we are, right now can help to strengthen our self identity. Remember, think of your identity as the naturally occurring qualities that make us who we are.
There are a number of tools to help you to define your identity. You may be able to integrate it into your established routine. These are good places to start when discovering your self identity. Journaling is a wonderful tool where you can add some questions to ponder and reflect then write your discoveries. Meditation is another way to allow space for answers to emerge. Use the following to get you started:
What are my values?
What roles do I play in my personal and work life?
What are my strengths?
Take it to the next step! What values and strengths would I like to have or enhance? What roles would I like to add or eliminate?
Yes, it takes some time, some effort. You are so worth it. Give yourself the gift of starting or revisiting who you are in this moment and who you would like to be going forward. To tackle the woods ahead (aka life!) spend time to answer “Who am I?” It will help you distinguish who you are and the confidence to be stronger in who you are. All individual, all strong , and all we need to take the next steps through the woods. Through the woods we go!
